THE RECORD MACHINE SHOW

MEET THE HOST

James Michael Hollenstein - Host and Music Enthusiast

James Michael Hollenstein

James Michael Hollenstein is an award-winning broadcaster, interviewer, and longtime radio personality best known as the host and creator of The Record Machine Show, a music interview program devoted to artist storytelling, music discovery, and meaningful conversations behind the songs.

With more than three decades of experience in broadcasting and performance, James began his journey in 1990 as a professional DJ. Performing across the tristate region, the Midwest, and the West Coast, he developed not only his public speaking skills but also a deep understanding of how music connects people. Those early years shaped his signature approach to broadcasting — conversational, respectful of the artist, and focused on creating a genuine connection with the audience.

In 2006, that passion evolved into the launch of The Record Machine Show, originally conceived as a music program on Live365. What began as a platform for sharing great music gradually evolved into something more meaningful. By 2017, James transformed the show into an interview-driven format designed to give artists a voice — a place where musicians could talk not just about their latest releases, but about their journeys, influences, challenges, and the stories behind their work.

Today, The Record Machine Show is recognized for its thoughtful interviews and its commitment to highlighting both established legends and emerging independent artists. The show has welcomed an impressive roster of guests over the years, including Suzi Quatro, Billy Vera, Walter Egan, Dean Friedman, Genya Raven, Donnie Vie, Rob Fraboni, Gary Talley, Harriet Schock, Liberty DeVitto, and many others, alongside countless independent musicians from around the world. James’ interview style focuses on authenticity, drawing out the human stories behind the music and helping listeners develop a deeper appreciation for the artistry.

James’ work in broadcasting continues to earn industry recognition. He is currently a 2026 nominee for the ISSA Music Awards for USA Radio Station/Podcast of the Year, a 2026 nominee for the European International Music Awards for Best Artist Spotlight Music Podcast, the Platinum winner of Rampage Music Group’s Podcast Host of the Month for February 2026, and a nominee for the 2026 Red Carpet Music Awards for Radio Host of the Year. He previously received the Bronze 2025 Radio Station/Podcast of the Year from the ISSA Music Awards, and achieved two third-place finishes in the 2025 Elite Music Awards worldwide competitions, reflecting his consistent presence and growing influence within the industry. His career and work have also been featured in Bold Journey, Canvas Rebel, and Shoutout DFW magazines.

Beyond awards and recognition, James remains focused on what has always mattered most to him: the music and the people behind it. Through The Record Machine Show, he strives to give artists — especially independent musicians — a platform where their voices can be heard and their stories respected. His approach is rooted in the belief that music is more than entertainment; it is storytelling, identity, and connection.

Listeners tune in not just for the interviews, but for the atmosphere James creates — one where artists feel comfortable sharing their experiences and where audiences feel like they are part of the conversation. That sense of authenticity and community continues to drive the show forward.

More than thirty years after first stepping behind a microphone, James Michael Hollenstein remains as passionate about music broadcasting as ever. Through The Record Machine Show, he continues to connect artists with audiences, preserve musical stories, and keep the spirit of radio alive in the modern podcast era.
